Dessert Anyone?

Once a month I get together with a group of amazing women for Dessert Club aka Mommy's Night Out. We share kid stories, we share life stories, we eat and we drink and we make dessert together. Yes, my friend Rosalynda is pretty brilliant, she is the founder of our group. We tried book club once, no way jose, that requires homework. Plus, I do not have time to read a whole book in one month. (I have cards to make!) Unless they change it to magazine club, I know I can crank out a Glamour, Everyday with Rachael Ray and my Women's Health much faster than I can read an assigned book. Whew. We prefer immediate satisfaction. At dessert club we know we will make a yummy dessert and then devour it before we part ways. Sometimes if our kids, husbands, moms, boyfriends etc are lucky we have some leftover and we share with them.

Each month we rotate houses and last month Jessica was the hostess. The hostess gets to choose what dessert we make and Jessica chose Almond Bars.  We had been on a roll with mostly chocolately desserts so this was something new! They were easy to make and they smelled so good when they were baking.

And here is what it looks like after it has baked and cooled.
They taste amazing. I am not joking. They are moist, sweet and light. The flavor is perfect and I am totally craving one right now!

You probably have all the ingredients in your pantry to make them right now!

Recipe adapted from Taste of Home

Almond Bars

Ingredients

4 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 cup butter melted (no substitutions)
2 cups flour
2 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
Almond slices and powder sugar to garnish

Beat eggs and sugar well. Add melted butter, flour, almond extract, and mix well until smooth.

Spread into well greased and floured 13"x9" pan and top with almond slices.

Bake at 325 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar and let cool before serving.

  1. Yum. I love it when you have leftovers from Dessert Club (not to be confused with Desert Club).

As far as you reading books: you've had World War Z on your table for three weeks. What chapter are you on? ;)

December Challenge: Brr! It's Cold!

Let's start December with a new challenge over at the My Pumpkin Challenge ! The last Paper Pumpkin kit was so adorable. I can't wait to see what everyone is making with it. The Challenge this month is Brr! It's cold. I live in Colorado and it is usually really cold and snowy this time of year. Yesterday the temperature was 60 degrees. My son wore shorts to school. It does not feel like December yet! It is weird to see Christmas lights hanging with no snow. I don't think snow is even in the forecast in Denver. But, in the spirit of winter here is my sample this week! p.s. I am not complaining about the warmth, just noting that it is odd. ;) I used one of the cute snowflake cards to make this hot cocoa treat. I cut one flap off the card (the end with half a snowflake). Then I used sticky tape to tape the sides of the remaining snowflake piece, to make a pocket for the hot cocoa packet. I stamped some snowflakes along the bottom and embellished the centers with rhi

New! Wishes and Stars Challenge

Let's welcome August with a new challenge over at the My Pumpkin Challenge . The theme this month is " Wishes & Stars ." It totally fits the July Paper Pumpkin kit. I love the options they provided in this kit and all the products too. You still have time to sign up for your Paper Pumpkin kit and to take advantage of the great deal going on now. Here is my sample this week. I made a star border with the different size star shapes from the kit. I traced the star outlines first, cut around my pencil lines then adhered the stars. (I thought it would look cleaner that way instead of having to cut around the stars and get in the tight areas.) The front says Make a and the inside actually says WISH, but I left my camera at work so I will show you the inside tomorrow. Don't forget to stop by the My Pumpkin Challenge today to for more inspiration. We would love for you to share your creations too! Don't be shy, even if you do not have a blog you can participa

Quick Tip Tuesday

I just wanted to share a quick tip I came across while I was browsing through Pinterest. I am not sure who came up with this great idea but I wanted to share it. Using the new framelits  Stampin' Up! offers you can make cute tags in different sizes or add a fun border to your card stock. I am enjoying creating with the framelits dies. I hope you will try it! Come back tomorrow and I will show you what I made using this technique!  ~ Thanks for stopping by! ~
